A Church for all Seasons
This unique book on one of Lake Orion’s oldest and most important buildings has been published for the Orion Historical Society to raise funds for the Union Church’s ongoing restoration. It places the history of the church in the context of the story of the Village of Lake Orion. It discusses the church's beginnings in the settlement era of Orion as a multi-congregation “union” church through the Civil War, and the coming of the railroad. It also includes Orion’s Gilded Age resort era, devastating Village fires, changing congregations, the Depression, and World War II. The intriguing story of the building’s deed and reversion to the Village, and attempts to preserve and restore the building bring special detail to its story which also includes historic photos, graphics, drawings, and old maps.
